MacPhail Wines
To say that MacPhail Family wines is a reflection of its winemaker is to, perhaps, understate the obvious. James MacPhail has focused nearly as much on building enduring relationships with his growers and fans of his wines as he has on crafting singular expressions of cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, wines of great distinction and universal acclaim, often from highly sought after vineyards.
Blending a passion for Pinot Noir with a passion for family and a continuing search for the enduring qualities of the most fickle of grapes, he has demonstrated first-hand how to pursue a dream, and make it happen.
After serving as a hands-on apprentice to legendary Pinot Noir winemakers, MacPhail Family wines was launched in 2002. Showing Modern Balance, MacPhail wines are crafted in small lots using traditional techniques with minimal intervention, a close and personal collaboration between winegrower and winemaker, revealing all that each wine has to offer.
While vineyard sourcing varies, winemaking is centered on the same consistent techniques, resulting in wines that highlight their differences based on a true sense of place. His prowess and affection for wines from Mendocino’s Anderson Valley are near legendary, and his embrace of the true Sonoma Coast has been equally revealing of what this appellation can offer.
