The Best Champagne for Mimosas
Champagne may not actually be your best Champagne for mimosas.
Mimosas are one of the great brunch cocktails. They’re delicious, easy to make, and they look like a glass of sunshine. There’s also every reason to make this drink at home. You probably have at least half of the ingredients on hand already. However, picking the best Champagne for mimosas can be tricky.
You don’t need to buy expensive Champagne for mimosas, but it’s good to pick a bottle that you will enjoy. You should also think beyond Champagne! Prosecco and Cava are great in mimosas, and you can usually save some money buying these cheaper sparkling wines.
Best Cheap Champagne for Mimosas
Try one of these affordable bottles that are easy to find at your local wine shop or grocery store. Most of these bottles are not actually Champagne, and that's fine. Real Champagne (from France) is expensive, and you just don't need something that fancy for a mimosa.
Cupcake Prosecco - Cupcake Prosecco is great in mimosas because it's affordable, dry, and you can find it almost anywhere. Dry wine is best for mimosas because you get plenty of sugar from the orange juice anyway. You can pick up this bottle on your way home from work on Friday night and be ready for mimosas for brunch on Saturday morning.
Codorniu Anna Brut - We mentioned above that Cava is a great sparkling wine for mimosas, and we love this brand! It's available in most grocery stores, and it's just perfect for mixing with orange juice and a splash of your orange liqueur. This wine was one of the first Cavas to incorporate Chardonnay into its blend, so you can expect a fruitiness from that versatile grape.
Poema Brut Cava - This is another Cava that we love for mimosas. It's fresh and fruity, with crisp flavors of green apple, citrus, and minerals. This would be a great wine to put out on your mimosa bar, because it's delicious in a cocktail or on its own. You can serve it with small bites like smoked salmon, buttery croissant, or quiche.
Can't find any of these? No problem! Try one of these other great options: Gruet Blanc de Blancs, Gruet Brut, Stella Rosa Imperiale Prosecco
Prosecco and Cava for Mimosas
What is Cava? Cava is a sparkling wine from Spain that is usually made using the same method as Champagne. The wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle, creating those bubbles that we love.
Prosecco is a sparkling wine from Italy, which is usually made by fermenting the wine in a tank and then bottling it afterwards. Even though the fermentation method differs, both of these wines are great in mimosas. Cava is usually quite dry, and it's great if you have a very sweet orange juice. Procecco is usually also dry, but it can be slightly sweet. Prosecco is a great choice if you have oranges that are slightly bitter.
These are some of our favorite Proseccos and Cavas for mimosas:
Mercat Brut Nature Cava - This is another Cava selection that's great no matter how you want to serve it. It's made from a blend of 3 Spanish grapes, and the finished wine is fruity and dry, with flavors of apricot and nectarine. Pretty perfect for a cocktail, right? Mercat is made up of plots of vines that range in age from 15-40 years old, giving the grapes added complexity and flavor.
Zardetto Prosecco Brut Treviso - This Prosecco is a pretty golden color in the glass, and it has fresh aromas of flowers and apricots. 1.2 million bottles of this wine have been produced, so you don't have to worry about finding one where you are. Just pick it up at the store and enjoy your brunch.
The White Knight Prosecco - This Prosecco may be affordable, but its aromas and flavors are enchanting. The nose shows delightful aromas of acacia flower, apple, and citrus peel. On tasting, the palate is crisp and bubbly, with even more fruit flavor. You can enjoy this Prosecco in your mimosa, along with a splash of your favorite orange liqueur. And if someone wanted to sneak a glass of The White Knight just to enjoy with some smoked salmon or Eggs Benedict, then that would be okay, too.
Here are some other great options, if you can't find the ones above: Mionetto Brut Prosecco, Campos de Estrellas Brut Nature Cava, Alta Alella Privat Brut Nature Reserva Cava, Juve y Camps Reserva de la Familia Cava, La Marca Prosecco
