The Newton Vineyard Unfiltered Merlot 2013 is one of those wines that is appealingly dark, a little wild, and full of surprises. Just enough rain was eked out of the dry 2013 growing season to produce complex grapes for this robust wine. In the glass, smoke and blueberry waft up from the inky dark wine to greet your nose. Aromas of earth and sweet caramel may catch you by surprise. The palate is powerful and rich, with Dutch cocoa, mocha, and ripe fruit flavors. The tannins are gravelly and the texture is robust.
